About us

A story that comes from the sea

La Península Seafood is a family-owned wholesale fish distributor, founded in 1980 on Margarita Island, Venezuela, where the largest red snapper and grouper fleet in Latin America and the Caribbean is based. We distribute to the U.S. market from our center in Doral, Florida.

Across several generations we have grown in the fishing industry, distinguished by the artisanal traditions we have passed down through the years.

Our story goes back to the first fishing communities of Margarita Island, founders of local shipyards where boats were built for deep-sea fishing in the Caribbean — catching premium fish such as Red Snapper, Grouper and B-Liner.

Today we operate a fleet of more than 30 vessels based in Suriname and Guyana. Over the last 10 years we have grown exponentially, letting us guarantee a steady supply all year round.

We export to the U.S. market: because the fish is fresh, Miami is just 6 hours away, delivering the highest-quality product straight to its destination.

Artisanal handline fishing

Our fishermen work as they have for generations: hook by hook, by handline, pulling in each fish by hand from deep waters. No trawl nets — just the fisherman, the line and the sea.

It is an artisanal technique that respects the ocean floor and delivers fish that is intact, selective and of the highest quality: a way of fishing that is unique in the world.

  • By hand, hook by hook
  • No trawl nets

Frequently asked questions

What you should know

Who is La Península Seafood?
We are a family-owned wholesale fish distributor, founded in 1980 on Margarita Island, Venezuela, where the largest red snapper and grouper fleet in Latin America and the Caribbean is based. We distribute to the U.S. market from our center in Doral, Florida.
What is artisanal handline fishing?
It is a method that catches fish one piece at a time with hooks, not nets. It is highly selective, reduces bycatch and has minimal impact on the ocean floor compared to trawling — delivering fresher, higher-quality and more sustainable fish.
Where do your red snapper and grouper come from?
It is wild fish caught by our fleet of more than 30 wooden vessels in the Guyana and Suriname fishing grounds, in the shipwright tradition of Margarita, then distributed in the U.S. from Doral, Florida.
How do I buy red snapper or grouper wholesale?
We sell wholesale to distributors, restaurants and retailers in the U.S. Call our Doral, FL team at +1 (305) 994-6868 or email contacto@lapeninsulaseafood.com for pricing and availability.
How fresh is the fish and how fast does it reach Miami?
Our wild-caught fish is kept cold-chain from catch to delivery and reaches the Miami area in just hours, ensuring premium freshness.
What makes your snapper and grouper different?
They are wild-caught, never trawled, and handline-selected. Hand-picked to meet the highest quality standards that define us.
